The Child Witness Centre extends its heartfelt thanks to the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation for their ongoing support of our vision of a community where children and youth are safe, valued and heard, empowering them towards strong futures.
Through the Adams Family Fund, the Child Witness Centre will be able to advocate for, and support, a child or youth as they journey through the criminal justice process. This generous gift will ensure a young victim and their family will receive trauma-informed, wraparound support that is uniquely tailored to their needs.
Support for these brave young people and their families – through the Child and Youth Advocate Program and the Child Witness Program – can include: walking with them through the investigation and the court process, advocating on their behalf, helping them cope with their fears and anxieties, helping their caregivers be effective supports and connecting them to services so they can begin to heal.
The Turnpenny Family Fund grant will help support the 16th annual Child Witness Centre Youth Symposium which will be hosted in the Spring of 2019. This day-long program – held in both Kitchener and Guelph to reach students across Waterloo Region, Guelph and Wellington County – offers Grade 8 students, and their teachers, an opportunity to hear from some of Canada’s most inspiring speakers. To date, more than 33,000 students have heard powerful stories of resiliency, goal-setting and citizenship – perfectly timed as they begin to prepare for high school.
With students providing positive feedback like “I feel inspired to be an even better person than I am now” and “don’t think about what you can’t do, focus on what you can do” – the Child Witness Centre is eagerly looking forward to next year’s Youth Symposium and the messages of positivity and optimism that it brings.
On behalf of the children, youth and families we support, the Child Witness Centre offers its gratitude to the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation and its partners. Together, we are fostering healing, hope and wellbeing so that children and youth may thrive now and forever.
