Imagine…

…that you were a child or youth who was a victim or witness of abuse or violence.
…that the accused was someone you knew.
…how this can affect you and your family over your lifetime.

Imagine…

… someone was there to walk with you through the criminal justice process, support you and advocate on your behalf.
This is the work of the Child Witness Centre.

We will be there so that you and your family are heard, helped and can begin to heal.

This year we supported 6743 young people and their families in Waterloo Region, Guelph and Wellington County.

583

children and youth experienced support, education and advocacy through the criminal
justice process

1198

parents and caregivers experienced support, education and advocacy through the criminal justice process

Child & Youth Advocacy Centre
& Child and Youth Advocate Program

The Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) is a best practice collaborative child and youth friendly model for investigating allegations of child abuse and ensuring these young victims, witnesses and their families are supported through an investigation and beyond, regardless of whether charges are laid. Core Partners in the CYAC are Waterloo Regional Police, Family and Children’s Services and the Child Witness Centre.  Our role in the CYAC is to provide oversight and deliver victim support services through the Child and Youth Advocate Program.
To learn about how this collaborative model is transforming investigations of abuse and support for these young victims, watch the video above or click here to learn more.

Child Witness Program

The Child Witness Program works in partnership with the justice system and community partners to provide victim support services through the criminal court process for children and youth under the age of 18, who are victims and witnesses of crime, and their families, in Waterloo Region, Guelph and Wellington County.
