Child and Youth Advocacy Centre Opens

May 3, 2016

Almost three years ago, we began leading an initiative in the community to establish a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) I am proud to share that together with our core partners, Family and Children’s Services (FACS) and Waterloo Regional Police, we opened our Waterloo Region CYAC.

When a young person finds the courage to come forward and tell someone that they are experiencing abuse the process for them and their families can be overwhelming and scary.  The new CYAC is a child and youth friendly place where specialized and dedicated professionals from Police and FACS, investigate allegations of abuse and Child and Youth advocates from the Child Witness Centre (CWC) support children youth and their families through the investigation and ensure that they are connected to services in the community that can help them begin to heal, regardless of whether charges are laid.
